MOIA, Volkswagen’s mobility startup launched its fully electric car optimized for ride pooling services during Techcrunch Disrupt in Berlin. The startup presented “One million cars off the road”, a new mobility offering to reduce traffic congestion in major cities.
A Greener and More Livable City
Last year, MOIA lay the foundation for the future of mobility at Techcrunch in London. The startup envisions a future where cities will no longer be plagued with traffic congestion, air and noise pollution. A greener and more livable city where the number of cars will be significantly reduced to liberate space for pedestrians. To bring this project to life, MOIA will launch its entire ecosystem including the all-electric van in Hamburg at the end of 2018.

The company designed an all-electric, six-passenger vehicle developed exclusively for ride pooling services. Each seat is equipped with reading lights, USB ports to provide as much convenience and comfort. In addition, passengers can book and pay for their ride through the MOIA app. The app will display which cars are currently available and will create group passengers with similar destinations to optimize the capacity for each car and the duration of the ride.
“The car represents total comfort and is a crucial piece of our consistent service experience. We developed it using our co-creation process, which involved multiple rounds of potential users of various age groups testing cars and providing feedback. Many of the ideas from this process went directly into the development of the car. We’re also working on other future versions as well,” says Robert Henrich, MOIA COO.
