We’re live from the NMW 18: Housewarming

By Editorial Team on September 19, 2018

Today the team arrived in Hanover bright and early for the press days at the NMW 18 and the IAA 18, taking place on September 19.-20., before the doors are opened for all visitors on Friday.

NMW 18 Housewarming
The NMW kicked-off with a housewarming, where after a brief introduction by VDA president Bernhard Mattes some of the exhibitors in the NMW were introduced. Among them was Dr. Corinna Elosge, the programme manager of Last Mile Logistics Vans & Drones at Daimler AG, who spoke on how the future of transportation will no longer separate between people and logistics, as efficiency on the last mile will be handled by a variety of solutions. The last mile is notorious for its complexity, but Mercedes-Benz Vans, US drone systems developer Matternet and Swiss online marketplace siroop successfully completed a pilot project in Zurich to test an efficient van and drone-based system for on-demand delivery of e-commerce goods. What is needed now from the VDA and the government are regulations friendly to drones and to the regulation of airspace.

Also present was Sebastian Heise, COO of the cloud-based system Graphmasters, which helps improve the navigation system of vehicles and aims to eliminate traffic jams by using swarm intelligence. Watch their demo below.

Sustainable Bus Awards 2018
The Sustainable Bus Award was launched by Italian magazine AUTOBUS in 2016 and now relies on a network of seven partner magazines that represent seven European countries. The jury had to proceed with the detailed evaluation of the vehicles shortlisted according to various criteria, split into the following groups: Engine, Transmission, Safety, Comfort, and Sustainability, with several aspects coming into play, such as safety, comfort, noise, recyclability of components and the general environmental commitment of the manufacturer.
