NMW Lab17 Applications now Closed — Thanks to all who Applied!

By Editorial Team on July 4, 2017

The NMW Lab17 challenge application period has now come to an end and we are overwhelmed by the quantity and exceptional quality of all the startups who have applied. Thank you!

We’ve received over 150 applications from 24 different countries. Hardware startups, software startups. Bootstrappers and early to late-stagers. Two-wheelers and four-wheelers. Dreamers. Shakers. Movers. You have inspired us and we cannot wait to see you deliver live at the New Mobility World in Frankfurt in September!

While we understand some of you may be sitting at the edge of your seat in the lead up to the finalist announcement, we thought we would let you in on what is going on behind the scene while our jury members deliberate.

What is the Evaluation Process?

In collaboration with Startup Sesame, we first reviewed all applications to select those that are fully eligible to the challenge. The startups were then separated into two categories: early stage (pre-seed) and later stage (up to Series A). The two groups will be judged independently: five early stage startups will be selected to present on Day 1 and five later stage on Day 2.

We’ve put together an expert team of jury members from all walks of entrepreneurial life who now have the difficult task of reviewing and evaluating the applications. The startups will be graded based on the following criteria:

  • Opportunity/Market: what’s the size of the market? Is it easy to address with the right technology?
  • Industry knowledge and customer focus: does the team know the industry well? How much do they know about their customers?
  • Competitive advantage: do they have patents or any specific resources that would allow them to win over the competition?
  • WOW factor: is it impressive and forward-thinking?
  • Global Feeling: does the startup fit within NMW Lab 17?

  • The evaluation process will take place over the course of the next two weeks, so stay tuned for the unveiling of the ten finalists who will have the chance to pitch their innovative concepts in front of a jury of mobility experts, VCs, industry representatives, serial entrepreneurs, influencers and journalists.
